Late Breaking Abstract Submission

The main call for abstracts for the Meeting have now closed however submissions are still open for late breaking abstracts. 

Authors are requested to review the below instructions and details in the late breaking abstract submission portal before preparing and submitting a late breaking abstract. 

• Late breaking abstracts will be considered for poster presentation only
• The final number of late breaking abstract submission acceptances is subject to venue capacity 
• Subject to venue capacity, posters for late breaking abstracts may not be within the exhibition/daily catering space
• Authors will be notified of the outcome of their late breaking abstract submission on 13 May 2024 which is the same week as the early bird registration deadline. Any authors not registered by the early bird registration deadline of 17 May 2024 will be required to pay the standard registration rate.

Presentation Type

Late breaking abstracts will be considered for poster presentation only. 

A Poster Presentation constitutes a visual display of research projects. The poster display will be an integral part of the program with dedicated times for delegates to interact with poster authors and ask questions. Full details of the format and display of Posters will be detailed within acceptance notifications sent to nominated presenting authors.

Abstracts for the Meeting could be submitted under the following themes: 

• Archaeal & Eukaryotic Viruses
• Bacterial Immune Systems
• Bioinformatics & AI
• Ecology & Evolution
• Microbiome & Systems Virology
• Phage Therapy
• Synthetic Biology
• Virus-Host Interaction
• Virus Structure and Function

Submitters were able to select up to two themes that each abstract could be considered under. 

Presentation Awards

A number of Poster Presentation Awards will be offered onsite at the Meeting. To be considered for these Awards, applicants must:

• Be a presenter of a poster presentation that has been submitted and accepted into the VoM 2024 Meeting program. 
• Be a PhD or post-doctoral student (evidence will be requested at the time of submitting your abstract). 
• Be a member of ISVM at the time of the Meeting. Registration is free and you can register via this link. 

Note: 

• The number of Awards on offer, and the value of each, will be made available on this website in due course. 
• A certificate will be presented to successful applicants at the Meeting, with funds for the Award transferred onsite at the Meeting in Cairns.
• The judge’s decision is final and prize winners will be announced in the closing session of the Meeting.

Abstracts are required to be submitted using the below template. Guidelines for how abstracts should be formatted are included on the template.  

Abstract Submission Amendments

Once submitted, abstracts can be amended via the portal up until the extended submission deadline of 5pm on Friday 19 April 2024.

Abstract Notification and Acceptance

Abstract review results will be communicated to the corresponding authors on Monday 13 May 2024.

Please note the details provided as the author contact should be for the nominated main contact for your abstract. All correspondence relating to the submission will be directed to this person and they should in turn distribute to all co-presenters.

Acceptance of this offer must be notified to the Meeting Office by no later than 5pm on Friday 7 June 2024. 

Abstract Presenter Registration

The invitation to submit an abstract does not constitute an offer to pay travel, accommodation or registration costs associated with the Meeting. Similarly, no presenter fee is paid to successful participants. 

Presentations must be delivered in person and the ability and willingness to present in Cairns will be a condition of acceptance into the program.

It is a requirement that the nominated presenter of all successful abstract submissions is registered to attend the Meeting. 

All presenters must register for the Meeting before 5pm on Friday 7 June 2024 in order for their presentation to be included in the Meeting program.
